Those who know me know that I’m pretty good, not a great player, but I am quite good at coaching our favorite game. During the summer, I, sometimes along with Marco Torresi, coached several Socratic sessions. Everyone got a lot out of those sessions. It is, without a doubt, the fastest way to advance your game at any level, whether you’re a beginner or advanced.

Besides the benefit for the participants, for me, it was profitable. This winter, it’s time for me to give something back. So what I’m offering is Socratic coaching essentially for free. It’s not really free. It comes with a minor obligation. I would like to suggest your bring bags, boxes or cans of food to your favorite food bank. So, instead of paying me, you support some people who would otherwise go hungry. Optionally, you could donate to an as yet unnamed fund for the refurbishment of the courts at Cañon Tennis and Swim Club, the place where I coach.

Additionally, I’ll offer a limited amount of free coaching to individuals, or non-Socratic sessions on specific strategies such as speed at the NVZ, spins, ‘deep-deep-dink,’ responding to bangers, and other techniques.

This will be dependent on the weather, and I don’t promise a long-term commitment. But for now, please feel free, very free, to take advantage of this offer. All you need to do is write me at For Socratic sessions, we need three- or four-player groups. Go ahead and put together your group, then we’ll work out a schedule that works for everyone.
